Welcome to the International Education and Lifelong Learning Institute (IELLI) Community Hub

Are you an educator or aspiring to be? Are you seeking like-minded individuals who share your passion for teaching and learning? Or are you curious about professional development opportunities? Join us here at the International Education and Lifelong Learning Institute and we can grow together!

  • This website is designed to support educators working within the broad field of Education. Whether you are an experienced professional or just beginning your journey, you’ll find a range of resources, discussions, and opportunities to enhance your practice and connect with others in the field.

This is more than just a resource – it’s a community. You can access our educational podcast courses and join our interactive forum, where you can share insights, ask questions, and reflect on how the ideas explored in the podcast series resonate with your experiences.

Whether you’re curious about the academic journey ahead or looking to connect with like-minded professionals, this space is designed to inspire, inform, and foster a sense of belonging. Join us and start exploring the vibrant worlds of International Education, TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), and Digital Education – subjects in which we also offer full postgraduate programmes within IELLI at the University of St Andrews.

  • Podcast Courses

Through our exclusive podcast courses, you’ll experience the types of thought-provoking discussions that shape our postgraduate modules at IELLI.

The first course (available now), inspired by our Education and Researching module, explores the role of research in shaping professional identities in education.

The second course (launching April 2025) is shaped by themes from English Medium Instruction.

The third course (launching August 2025), based on Trends and Policies in International Education, examines the key influences shaping international education, exploring global trends, policies, and intercultural dialogues, and their impact on pedagogy and educational leadership.

How should I engage with the Podcasts?

Each podcast course is presented through five extended audio recordings. An audio-only format (with the exception of supplementary explanations) has been used for the following reasons:

    1. Educators are busy people! The audio/podcast-style format should allow you to engage with the content while also getting on with other daily tasks/activities (e.g. commuting, doing household chores, exercising, etc.), so hopefully won’t require you to take extra time out of your day.
    2. There is some evidence that engaging in physical movement whilst listening may aid learning (e.g. see this advice from the Learning Center at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill). Each recording would work well as a soundtrack for a long walk, for example.

The audio quality does vary slightly across the discussions; however, all recordings should be clear enough for listeners to follow the discussions.

If you are unable to engage with audio resources then rough transcripts of the discussions are available on request. Please contact Jennifer Taylorson at [email protected] if you would like more information about this.

    Other Resources

The final tab on this website brings together a collection of professional development resources created by IELLI staff and students. These resources have been designed to support educators in enhancing their teaching, fostering reflective practice, and engaging with key themes in international education, TESOL, and digital education. We encourage you to explore these materials, integrate them into your practice, and share them with colleagues.

  • This website is your gateway to exploring some of the themes and concepts that shape our postgraduate programmes. If you would like to find out more about the programmes we offer, please visit our Postgraduate Courses webpages.

We also run a range of virtual information sessions about our postgraduate programmes. If you would like to book a place at one of these events please visit the virtual information sessions booking form page for either International Education, TESOL or Digital Education (coming soon).
